Planning to apply for a job at Dollar Tree? Here’s what you need to know about their drug testing policies.
Does Dollar Tree Drug Test?
Drug testing requirements vary across the jumbo discount chain store locations.
While some distribution centers are strict on pre-employment and workplace drug testing, others may not require you to submit to drug tests.
However, all Dollar Tree stores will drug test you if you are a prospective or current employee in a safety-sensitive position.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
As a new hire, you may or may not be required to submit to a drug test. It depends on the duties you are applying for.
Note that the tasks that you’ll perform will determine whether you’ll be in a safety-sensitive or non-safety-sensitive position, not your job title.
Since pre-employment drug testing policies vary across Dollar Tree locations, where you are applying will also determine whether or not you will be drug tested.
San Francisco and California branches of Dollar Tree are known to require a pre-employment drug test for all new hires.
Drug testing is carried out after you are provided with a conditional job offer. You will be required to consent to the drug test through a written and signed agreement.
A pre-employment drug test is also required if you are a current employee transferring from a non-safety-sensitive function into a safety-sensitive position.
Does Dollar Tree Drug Test Their Employees?
Yes, you can still be tested even after you become an employee. Employee tests are conducted based on reasonable suspicion or following an accident.
However, not all Dollar Tree stores conduct these tests. If you are an employee at Dollar Tree Distribution Centers in Chesapeake or Virginia, you are more likely to experience random or scheduled drug tests.
You will be told when there is a test and asked to sign an acknowledgment that you consent to these drug tests.
Drug or illicit substance use in Dollar Tree while on duty is strictly forbidden and immediate grounds for dismissal. If you fail a drug test, you will be terminated immediately.
What Types Of Drug Tests Are Used?
Urine drug tests are the most common at Dollar Tree. The urine samples are analyzed for the following drugs or metabolites:
- Marijuana metabolites (THC)
- Cocaine metabolites
- Opiates (including codeine, heroin, morphine)
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
- Amphetamines (including methamphetamine, MDMA)
Prescription medication might be allowed, but we recommend that you disclose that you are on medication before the test. You may need to submit a doctor’s letter to prove that the drugs are for medical reasons.
How to Pass a Drug Test at Dollar Tree
Urine drug tests are relatively easy to pass, especially if you have a few days before the test. If you have a couple of weeks or more and you are a light or regular user, natural detox is enough.
Exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet high in fiber and lean proteins and drink lots of water.
If you have just a few days, buy a detox kit such as Toxin Rid. If it is a random test and you only have a day or a few hours, get a detox drink. It’ll give you a clean window of about 3-5 hours.
